My mission is to help your student learn how to read carefully and write clearly. After graduating from Pratt Institute with a degree in writing, I joined the highly selective NYC Teaching Fellows where I received a master's degree in education and gained three years teaching experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, needs, ages, and skill levels. Moving forward, I wish to narrow my focus from the larger classroom toward an educational practice that is personalized for each and every student. I specialize in literacy education for struggling learners and those with disabilities. I believe that every child is capable of learning. By identifying your student's learning style and catering to his or her strengths, I work to teach reading and writing strategies to help your student not only in ELA classes, but across all subjects. With my assistance, you will see improvement in vocabulary, reading comprehension, analysis, and writing structure. I provide assessments and progress reports periodically and can work to help you understand your student's educational needs for success in the classroom. Literacy education is about building foundational knowledge that will help your student conquer material from short stories and novels to word problems. It is also about acknowledging and celebrating the way that students think, even if it is a little different from everyone else. In my teaching experience, I have worked with students in both general education and special education environments in almost every major subject. The key to success in all of these is being able to analyze text and decipher the questions being asked. The new Common Core standards emphasize literacy across all subject matters.
